What's In A Name?

For those who don't know, Hotel Illness is the title of a Black Crowes song, and while I've always liked the song, I didn't really attach any significance to those words until my stint as Product Analyst for an electronics company.  I used to travel for that job, a lot.

Probably everyone has at some point, awoken to find they weren't quite sure of their surroundings.  The disquiet of an unfamiliar room.  The battle of impending panic and a faltering memory.  "Where am I?"  The tightening of the throat, the darting of the eyes, until finally, you remember and chuckle to yourself something about too many cocktails.

My travel sometimes included last minute changes and different hotels in different cities within the same trip.  I would wake up earlier, and more frequently trying to remember where I was and how I got there.  Even when I reminded myself of my job, I would sometimes forget what city I was in.  The unfamiliarity became a sort of deja vu.  A reoccurring dissonance.  For me, this is the Hotel Illness.
